Tagoyano Shell Midden

Excavated bones of marine animals

The Tsugaru Plain, which is located around the Tagoyano Shell Midden, was under an inland sea in the Early to Middle Jomon periods. The Jomon people of the Tagoyano Shell Midden presumably caught yamato-shijimi clams and various types of fish as well as marine animals such as whales, sea lions and Steller’s sea lions there.
