The embankment of Earthwork Burial Circle No. 2 was partly damaged by roadworks (for the present National Route 337) in 1891, and was scraped during road extension work in June 1965. This photo shows that the embankment was covered by a pumice fall deposit layer of the Edo era (layer thickness: 30 – 35 cm; Tarumae-a pumice fall deposit; spewed in 1739) that is directly below the surface soil, which covers a black humus soil layer of 10 to 20 cm. This is a composite photo of the right and left parts.
