Privacy Policy
1. Basic Concept
The Council for the Preservation and Utilization of World Heritage Jomon Prehistoric Sites, which operates the Digital Archives of the Jomon Prehistoric Sites in Northern Japan (at the “https://www.jomon-japan.jp/archives” domain; hereinafter referred to as “the Archives”), pays close attention to protecting the privacy of their users in smoothly providing the Archives’ services. The collected information is handled appropriately within the scope of its purpose of use.
2. Scope of Information to be Collected and Purpose of Use
(1) Personal information to be provided for commercial use of the Archives
Any party who intends to use photographs and/or videos from the Archives for commercial purposes is asked to register their name, affiliation, e-mail address, and the purpose of use. The collected information will be used as a reference for future policies. For the same purpose, the collected information may be provided to local governments constituting the Council for the Preservation and Utilization of World Heritage Jomon Prehistoric Sites.
(2) Access logs
The Archives automatically collects access logs that contain data such as the internet domain name, IP address, date and time of access, search keywords used, accessed files and pages, and browser used. The collected logs are used as statistical data and as a reference for enhancing website performance and services. For the same purposes, the collected information may be provided to local governments constituting the Council for the Preservation and Utilization of World Heritage Jomon Prehistoric Sites.
(3) Use of cookies
Cookies are used on parts of the Archives to analyze access to the site and to improve the convenience of the site. Users may be able to change these settings and disable cookies, depending on the browser they use. If you block cookies, however, some content and functionality, such as the downloading of photos and/or videos, may not work properly.

(4) Use of Google Analytics
The Archives uses Google Analytics to collect and analyze access logs. For information on how Google Analytics collects and processes data, visit Google’s websites such as “How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services” and “Safeguarding your data.” The “Safeguarding your data” page explains how users can mask their IP address from the Google Analytics access logs.
(5) Use of YouTube
The Archives uses YouTube for video playback and distribution. For YouTube’s efforts to protect the privacy of visitors to the channel, see the YouTube Terms of Service, Google Privacy Policy, and YouTube Kids Privacy Notice.
(6) Points to Note for Social Media Users
Some social networking services (SNSs) automatically receive user information (such as the user identifier and visited sites) simply by accessing webpages that contain SNS buttons while the user is logged in to the SNS. In other words, buttons do not need to be clicked to initiate this transfer.
Refer to the following websites for the privacy policy of SNSs used on the Website.
- For Facebook’s Like button (Facebook social plugin), see the Facebook Data Policy.
- For Twitter’s Tweet button, see the Twitter Privacy Policy.
- For LINE, see the LINE Privacy Policy.
3. Restrictions on Use and Provision
The Council for the Preservation and Utilization of World Heritage Jomon Prehistoric Sites will never use the collected information for any purposes other than those stated in #2 above, nor will it provide it to a third party, except for particular cases where there are legal disclosure requests or unlawful actions (e.g., illegal access, intimidation). However, the Council may publish statistically processed data based on access logs mentioned in (2) of #2 above.
4. Measures to ensure security
The Council for the Preservation and Utilization of World Heritage Jomon Prehistoric Site takes appropriate measures to prevent the leakage, destruction, or damage of collected information.
5. Scope of application
This Privacy Policy applies only to the Archives.
